Continuing on my Kingdom Hearts musical challenge. I chose off of Disc 2 of the OST Forze del Male. For anyone thinking to themselves “but Destati is on that disc!”: firstly, good for you for knowing off the top of your head which songs can be found on which discs. Secondly, it was an extremely tough decision, and one day I might go back to this and change my mind, and put up Destati instead. But like I said for Disc 1, a lot of my decision is based off of how it related to my gaming experience during my first playthrough. I had just beaten the ridiculously intimidating Maleficent in her dragon form, and (I thought at the time) destroyed her for good. I felt awesome, invincible, capable of taking out any enemy that followed, no problem. Cutscene begins to roll, there’s Riku, almost (but not quite) entirely consumed by darkness. First reaction: I beat him already, piece of cake, AND I just took out Maleficent, twice. Reaction after cutscene: Come and try to take Kairi’s Heart! Reaction after fifteen seconds of battle: Damn, he’s fricken hard to beat! Reaction after 1:30 of battle: Wow, this music’s really great. I won on the first try by the skin of my teeth and with my health bar flashing, and the music stuck in my head as ‘the most intense battle of KH’… until fighting Sephiroth, of course.
Creating my own challenge for myself: To find my favorite song from each of the nine discs of the Kingdom Hearts-Original Soundtrack Complete. This is Night of Fate, which I love because it’s just this building intensity, which is amplified times a billion when you’re playing the game. This song mainly plays twice in the game. The first time, your home world gets overrun by black creatures that you’ve never seen before, and your wooden sword does nothing to them. In panic, you run to find your friends/ escape death, to somehow come across a keyblade. You try this, and suddenly your enemies start falling one by one, and you feel awesome. The second time is when you’re scrambling through Traverse Town alone, trying to find refuge from the onslaught of creatures that really seem to have it in for you at this point. Every corner you turn you find them, and this is when your level is so low that Soldiers and Red Nocturnes posed a serious threat. Yeah, I’m a nerd… but really. This song embodied my first Kingdom Hearts experience. Oh, and Leon kicking a Soldier out of a second story window? Coolest thing.
